ABOUT CAPTAIN RICKY POUPORE
Some people find their way to the water. Ricky Poupore was born to it.
Growing up in San Mateo, Florida — just inland from St. Augustine — Ricky spent his childhood on these same Atlantic waters, fishing alongside his father more than 30 years ago. He didn’t just learn where the fish were. He learned how the Gulf Stream moves, how the ledges hold grouper after a cold front, and how to read the sky before the weather apps catch up.
That knowledge doesn’t come from a course. It comes from decades of being out there.
From the Swing Shift to the Open Sea
Ricky spent years working a blue collar swing shift — steady work, reliable hours, and a growing feeling that there was something better waiting offshore. He made the call most people only talk about. He walked away from the predictable, earned his USCG 6-Pack Captain’s license, and built SeaCo Fishing Charters from the ground up.
It wasn’t about the money. It was about doing something that matters — sharing a passion that’s been part of his life since he could hold a rod.
“I’m blessed to have the support system that made this possible. I love offshore fishing and I love taking people out there to experience it for themselves.”
Life Off the Water
When he’s not running charters, Ricky doesn’t slow down much. Turkey season, duck blinds, deer stands — if it’s huntable in Northeast Florida, he’s probably already got it scouted. He spends the rest of his time with his wife and two grown sons, the support system that made SeaCo possible in the first place.
He also brings that same local expertise to the airwaves. Every Thursday from 6–7pm, Ricky joins fellow Northeast Florida charter captains on The Outdoor Show Fishing Forecast — broadcast live on 1010XL.com and Jacksonville 92.5FM. If you want to know what’s biting before you book, tune in.
What You Get With Captain Ricky
SeaCo is not a big operation running multiple boats with rotating crew you’ve never met. When you book with SeaCo, you get Ricky. Every trip.
He has regulars who come back season after season — locals who know that when Ricky says the wahoo are running, they’re running. He’s equally comfortable putting a first-timer on their first mahi or running 60 miles offshore with a group of serious anglers chasing pelagics all day. He adjusts to who’s on the boat, not the other way around.
What he won’t adjust on is safety. Ricky will not hesitate to cancel or cut short a trip if the weather turns sketchy. No catch is worth the risk — and his clients’ safety comes before everything else on the water. That’s not a policy. That’s who he is.
